Every box in the rack, accounted for.
Snap the label and Rack Retriever fills in the serial, MAC, make and model. It keeps track of warranties, what each thing cost, what it plugs into, and exactly which rack unit it lives in.
Android is coming soon to Google Play.
Tap any unit in the rack.
Point your phone at the sticker. Check the details. Save.
Adding gear starts with the label on the back. The phone reads it on the device, with no internet needed, and suggests what goes where.
- Take or choose a photo. Drag the corners to crop, turn it 90°, or straighten a crooked shot with the slider.
- Check what it found. The serial, MAC, make and model are filled in. If one's wrong, tap Pick to choose another line, or Copy any line on the label.
- Keep the photo with the item. Add more photos any time, and read their text again later. Backups include them.
Reading labels works in the iPhone, iPad and Android apps. In the browser, the photo is still kept with the item.

The spreadsheet you meant to keep, done properly.
Made for the network closet, the garage rack and the small office. It knows what a rack unit is and what a MAC address looks like.
Where it lives
Rooms, racks and rack units, drawn to scale. Tap an empty unit to add gear right there, and taller gear takes up its real height.
Serials and MACs
Type a MAC address and it suggests the maker, even offline. Search finds a MAC however it's written: colons, dashes, dots or none at all.
Warranties
Pick 1, 2, 3 or 5 years and the expiry fills in from the purchase date. You're warned 30, 60, 90 or 180 days ahead. No warranty? Tick N/A and it never nags.
What it cost
Price, tax and shipping for every item. Bought several things in one order? Tax and shipping are shared out by price, and the order total stays in view.
What plugs into what
Record each device's uplink, port and speed, from 100 Mb to 100 Gb. The uplink list only offers gear that can take one: network gear, NVRs, servers and NAS boxes.
Cables, without the clutter
Cables get their own section in the list, stay out of the rack view, and never count toward your device total or your plan.
Spares and retired gear
Mark gear "not yet deployed" while it's still in the box. When something's sold, returned or fails, mark it removed with the reason and keep its history.
What it's for
A note on every item, from "PoE for upstairs APs" on a switch to "office wall drops" on a patch panel, plus free-form notes for firmware and logins.
Spreadsheets in and out
Import the spreadsheet you've been keeping, and the columns are matched for you. Export to CSV, save a full backup with photos, or print a report by room and rack.
At the desk or standing in the closet.

Your inventory stays on your device.
A list of every device on your network, with serials, MAC addresses and photos of their labels, is exactly the kind of thing that shouldn't live on someone else's server. So it doesn't. There's no account and no cloud, labels are read on your phone, and backups are plain files you keep wherever you like.

Start free. Move up as the rack fills.
Free
Enough to try it on your core gear: the modem, gateway and main switch. In your browser or in the apps.
Home
Most homesA typical home network with access points, cameras, a NAS and a UPS.
Pro
Serious homelabs with several racks and a shelf of spares.
Unlimited
As much gear as you've got, from a big lab to a small office.
Home, Pro and Unlimited are yearly plans in the iPhone and iPad app, billed through the App Store (and through Google Play in the Android app, coming soon). The web version at rackretriever.app is the Free plan: up to 6 items, at no cost. Removed items still count until you delete them, since you might want their history. Your inventory stays yours on any plan; if you go over, nothing is deleted and you can still edit it.
Good questions.
Do I need to make an account?
No. Open the app and start adding gear. There's nothing to sign up for and no password to forget.
Where is my inventory stored?
On your device only: in your browser's storage on the web, or in the app's own storage on iPhone, iPad and Android. Nothing is uploaded. Save a backup file now and then, since that file is your copy if you change devices or clear your browser.
How does reading a label work?
Tap Start with photo of label, take or choose a photo, and crop it to the sticker. The phone reads the text itself, using the text reader built into iOS or Android, then suggests the serial, MAC, make and model for you to check. Nothing is sent anywhere, so it works in a closet with no signal.
What counts toward my plan?
Every item you add except cables and sample gear: switches, access points, racks, patch panels, accessories, spares on the shelf. Removed items still count until you delete them. Cables never count, so you can keep adding them even when your plan is full.
Can I bring in the spreadsheet I already have?
Yes. Import a CSV from Excel, Numbers or Google Sheets. Rack Retriever guesses which of your columns is which, and you can adjust the matches before anything is imported.
Does it work without internet?
Yes. Once it's loaded, everything works offline, including reading labels and suggesting the maker of common homelab brands from a MAC address. If you're online and the built-in list doesn't know a MAC, the app can look up just its maker prefix.
What can I do in the free web version?
Everything except reading label photos: racks, warranties, costs, uplinks, imports, exports and backups, for up to 6 items plus any number of cables. When you need more, move to the iPhone, iPad or Android app with a backup file. Your own backup can always be restored in full on the web, so nothing is ever locked away.
Where do I get the app?
For iPhone and iPad, it's on the App Store: Rack Retriever: Homelab Gear. The Android app is in testing now and coming soon to Google Play; email support@3351labs.com if you'd like a note when it's out. Mac and Windows versions will follow, and the web version works on any computer in the meantime.
Can I move my inventory from the web app to a phone app?
Yes. In the web app choose Data › Download backup, then in the phone app choose Data › Restore from backup and pick that file. Photos come along with it.
